Predicting Health | 2015 to date
From the hospital into the future
Steiermärkische Krankenanstaltengesellschaft (KAGes) has always been committed to the motto “People helping people” and has always focused its activities on the patient. In view of limited resources and the desire to improve patient safety and prevention, the question arose as to how people in the healthcare sector can be supported in the best possible way.
Predictions through effective use of data already collected
This is where the concept of Predictive Analytics came into play. KAGes recognized that the data it collects on a mandatory basis not only serves as documentation, but can also be used as a treasure trove of information.
AI-based predictions
With the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning, it is possible to predict possible risks and progressions of diseases based on millions of other disease progressions. These predictions make it possible to intervene at an early stage in order to avoid negative outcomes and increase patient safety.
Innovative use of data
The KAGes Data Science Team was established in 2015 on the initiative of Werner Leodolter to drive this idea forward.
In close cooperation with doctors and nurses, they developed algorithms that supported the staff during treatment by providing relevant information about the patients.
These solutions quickly gained the trust of users and were successfully implemented in other hospitals.

Foundation of Predicting Health
The success and potential of these solutions were so convincing that the decision was made to found an independent company – Predicting Health GmbH. This makes it possible to offer solutions and services to other healthcare providers and to participate in international research collaborations.
